Monsoon is when most corporate afforestation budgets turn into planted trees, and CSR teams across India are currently signing off on Miyawaki forests, avenue plantations and restoration sites for the June-September window. The question almost nobody asks until year three is the one that actually determines whether that spend counted for anything: did the trees survive? A dense, photogenic plantation at the ribbon-cutting stage says very little. Survival at 36 months is the number that matters, and it is also the number most CSR contracts never pin down in writing.

That three-year window is not arbitrary. What to Put in the Contract, Not Just the Proposal

A species list by botanical name, cross-checked against regional native-forest data, with known exotics and invasives explicitly excluded
Geotagged records of every sapling at planting, not just a site-level photograph
Formal survival assessments at 6, 12, 24 and 36 months, not a single completion certificate
A written multi-year maintenance commitment covering watering, mulching and replacement, priced as part of the project rather than treated as optional
Satellite or drone-based canopy verification for larger sites, alongside ground-level plot sampling
